TIPS BELOW SENT IN BY MEMBERS
If. like me, you are getting a bit fed up with holding the radio in your hand, and also dislike having the earphones in your ears from a 'hands free', you could do as I did and make a bracket for the radio within arms reach, so as to be able to key the radio. I also made a small external box with a speaker and a microphone connected. This is a very simple project to do.
Items used for an external box for a Telcom 100.
1 Hands free lead.
1 Box
1 Speaker (small PC speaker works well)
1 Microphone (CB mic insert works fine)
1 connecting block, with 3 connectors.
The first thing I did was to drill the 4 holes to hold the speaker in the box, then I made the cut out for the sound to come through (if your cutting is not very straight you can cover the speaker with fine mesh)
Then I drilled a hole in the back of the box to enable the connecting block to be fitted.
I then cut the microphone and earphone off from the hands free lead.
I drilled another small hole close to the connecting block, so that the cut ends of the hands free lead could be passed through. Once the lead is passed through, tie a knot in it to ensure that it cannot be pulled out. But make sure you have enough wire to bare the ends and connect to the connecting block, as shown in diagram below.
Drill another small hole in the back of the box to run the microphone lead through, and again tie a knot so as to retain it in the box, then connect the microphone as in the diagram below.
Connect speaker as shown below. We are sure that this does not contravene any laws governing the use of this radio, as there is no modification to the radio itself.
We cannot be held responsible for any damage caused during the modification.
