Should all radio be free?
Well we all know that we have to have laws, but how can any goverment charge for something that is free, like the airwaves. If you listen around the bands there is so much space that could be given as free bands. For instance the 10m Ham band is hardly ever used, only when conditions are very good about every 11 years during sunspot maximum. All this wasted space could be given as free bands and the 70cms band, a large underused band could be put to better use especially in todays modern world with everyone fighting for band space. Now that there is a decline in ham radio users, I think it is time for goverments to have a rethink. I am not a killjoy as I have been a ham operater since 1985 but I dont agree with the old boys about hogging airwaves that never get used.

Misuse
The only problem that I can see is that any free bands that are given would be misused. We only have to look back at CB since it became legalised in 1981, to see what happens when there is no control. I do feel, however that a lot of the problems lie with goverments, after all they are getting licence money so should be policing the band. I have also noticed that a few fools have started to appear on the 446 band, running high power and echo mics.
And as the DTI have stated that they will not police the band, will it go the same way as CB?.
